What to do once you are in Slovakia ?

How to get to the Foreign Police in Bratislava from the Welcome Centre ?

Since many of you are staying at different locations across the city, planning your visit to the Foreign Police may be slightly more complicated.

Here's how you can get there from the Welcome Centre:

  1. Take tram no. 4 from Šafárikovo námestie (in front of the Faculty of Law, Comenius University)
  2. Get off at the Vajnorská stop
  3. Walk to the Stará Vajnorská bus stop and take bus no. 65 (make sure it’s going in the direction of Tbiliská)
  4. Get off at Regrútska bus stop
  5. Walk about 500 meters to reach the Foreign Police Department

You must have health insurance for the entire duration of your stay

You must conclude health insurance no later than within three business days of receiving your residence card. You do not have to send the proof of health insurance to the Foreign Police, but you must be able to prove you have it if checked.

Get your obligatory medical check done.

This is good news ! It means you have received your residency card !

This medical report, IS REQUIRED within 30 days from getting your residency card by post, submit to the Foreign Police, a medical certificate ONLY from the below selected clinics :

  • Poliklinika cudzokrajných chorôb, ZAMA s. r. o., Americké námestie 3, 811 08 Bratislava
  • Inštitút očkovania a cestovnej medicíny s. r. o., Teslova 33, 821 02 Bratislava
  • Medicínske zariadenie Mlynská Dolina s. r. o., Staré Grunty 56, 841 04 Bratislava
  • Travel Health Clinic s. r. o., Tehelná 3120/26, 831 03 Bratislava – mestská časť Nové Mesto

You can make an appointment via email, online, or by contacting the clinic by phone.

A blood test will be performed during the visit.

I would like to mention that at Travel Health Clinic, they send the medical report directly to the Foreign Police (so you do not need to do it yourself and you can request a copy on demand after 1 week).

However, at Medicínske zariadenie Mlynská dolina, you will need to pick up the report and send a notarized copy to the Foreign Police yourself. I recommend sending it by 1st class mail, so you have proof of dispatch.

The cost is approximately 150 EUR in all clinics. 😊

How to set up a bank account:

It is possible to choose from several banks once you are in the Slovak Republic.

To open a bank account, you must provide all the documents in English or in Slovak, most banks have employees who can speak English, but if you do not come across the one, you should ask if there is someone else who can translate it for you.

Requirements for non-EU residents

If you are a non-EU resident, it is recommended that you have all the documents prepared in English or Slovak (so that the process of opening a bank account does not meet any inconsistencies).

Be prepared to provide:

  • Passport
  • Mobile phone (Slovak number)
  • E-mail address
  • Place of birth
  • Permanent address (home country)
  • Contact address in the Slovak Republic (for credit card delivery by post)
  • Proof of studies not older than 30 days
  • Long-term visa or Permanent/Long-term residence permit
